Entry: "Bleeding Gums Murphy" Wednesday, September 29, 2004

If you're a Simpsons fan, you know who I'm talking about. He was that jazz player that inspired Lisa Simpson's love of playing the saxophone.

Anyway, they called him "Bleeding Gums Murphy" because of his bad case of gingivitis.

Lately, I am reminding myself of him. I have read in quite a few places that gum sensitivity is part of pregnancy. Well, I have always had sensitive gums that resulted in a "pink" toothbrush every morning, but now it's ridiculous! My gums are in really bad shape and there is little I can do to help it besides normal burshing, flossing, and swishing with Listerine.

I went to the dentist last week to see what they can do, but since I am pregnant there was little that could be done but a cleaning. They couldn't give me x-rays or anything else. The dentist just cleaned my teeth and told me to take better care of them and come back after the baby is born, *sigh*.

So now it seems like they are getting a little worse, despite what I'm doing to care for them. sometimes they just bleed spontaneously, without me touching or irritating them in anyway. So, I'm reluctant to give anyone a big toothy grin.   I hate this! I know I have gingivitis, but I hope it's not too late when I have the baby for the dentist to help me, because I really don't want it to get so bad that I lose any teeth, yikes!

Anyway, that's just my lil vent for the day.

Oh dear! What a pickle to be in! I've never been pregnant, so I can't speak from experience from that perspective. BUT I DO know that I used to have a problem with bleeding gums and taking EXTRA Vitamin C stops it! Maybe that can help you, too. (((hugs)))

hey, that's a good point! thanks! I'm going to ask my doctor if it's OK for me to take a vitamin c supplement (I don't see how it would be a problem though). Thank you so much, I hope it works!

Still not great. Haven't been to my next prenatal appt. yet, that's when I'll ask my Dr. if extra vitamin C is OK to take.
